My Conversation with a Boomer

He is a real Australian as one can be. He's an Australian Boomer - a light-hearted father who has a love for clivias. I've known him for 12 years now and counting. I can tell that he was a very handsome and charming young man by the laugh lines on his face.

He loves his home and now doesn't have the eagerness to be anywhere else. The kitchen dining table is the central part of his house. There's always food and people there. Literally I'd have tea and biscuits almost every hour that I wouldn't have room in my stomach for lunch or dinner.

He has a very bright and active mind at 80 - talking about the economy, culture, countries, stocks and property investments. So I took advantage of asking him what his motivation in life is.

He said he wanted to do his very best in every task - becoming a mechanic, building his business, growing clivias, renovating his home, selling Electrolux. He'd even been awarded as the top Sales Person in his region that allowed him to travel overseas for a prolonged period of time.

I realise from our conversation that Aussies in his generation are very proud of their hard work. And at their old age, they reflect fully on history.  There's a treasure of insights when they speak if one truly wants to listen. If they had been dogmatic, it's because of their desire for discipline... their desire to get things done. They are headstrong and resolute in moving out of their comfort zones in their younger years.

But most importantly, he said that "Passion Always Wins". I'll remember this, because it's years in the making... and most of the time, I would only be able to see how impossible things are sometimes  when I look at them at present.
