Australia's Aged Care Abuse Cases

When a person has Dementia, he or she may forget to do regular activities like walking or simply standing up.   It is incredibly heartbreaking to see elderly parents suffering from this condition.  This is just one of the conditions that require 24/7 care which force many working adults to put their parents in 'homes'.

This video below shows shocking accounts of the cracks in the Australian Aged Care system.
1.  There is a lack of training for aged care assistants. There are many cases that Australia has to depend on overseas labour to support the system. Aside from the language barrier, there's also a difference in values.
2. There are reports of cases where aged care centre accreditation documents are doctored.
3. The documented cases and investigations on maltreatment are not exposed on a centralised website for public reference.

Could these Aged Care issues really be solved with money?  Not entirely - this I strongly believe.

There are processes that need to be reviewed and changed.  Immediate 'care' training that need to be done. There are policies that need to be revised.

Most importantly, there needs to be a change of mindset.
1. Caring for people is THE job that only humans can do. Robots can, one day, do the heavy lifting.  After completing all the educational certification & requirements; A genuine person with a kind heart, trustworthy character is the kind of person who truly deserves the bigger salaries and more secure income.
2. Money is only 'part of the solution'.
3. The immediate family should have primary duty and responsibility for care.
4. Personal responsibility - "Ageing" not just "retirement" should have provisions in one's lifetime budget. Minimise the role of government and requirement for government subsidy.
